Every May the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the Armed Forces Festival.

First celebrated in 1948, this includes the nation's largets and longest running Armed

Forces Day parade and festival.  the chamber wants to thank the men and women that

wear the uniform of the United State of America's Armed Forces.  Our tremendous

success of these events are made possible by the sponsors and volunteers.  Please help

our community in saying thank you to our Armed Forces by signing up to sponsor one or

Ambassador Program

 

This is a scholarship opportunity that improves students' research and public speaking skills

while building their awareness of the military and business communities in Kitsap County. 

 

Criteria

   Applicant must:

  •    be a resident of Kitsap County
  •    be between the ages of 16 and 20 (as of January 31, 2012)
  •    be a high school graduate, 2012 graduating senior, college student or career person
  •   have at least a 2.5 cumulative high school grade point average
  •    be of good moral character
  •    not have been convicted of any crime


History and Stats

The Armed Forces Festival Queens Pageant was converted to the Armed Forces Festival Ambassador's

Program in 2002. It was determined that this scholarship opportunity should be available to both male

and female contestants.

  • Since 2002 this event has provided scholarships to 63 young adults from the Kitsap County area.
  • Over $40,000 in scholarship has been awarded in the past nine years.
  • The audience for the final event has grown every year, from 35 to over 150.

Military Culinary Arts Competition


This is a cooking competition among the Western Washington Military Culinary Specialists.

  • Ribs
  • Chocolate Chip cookies

History and Stats

The Armed Forces Festival Military Culinary Arts Competition got it's beginning as a simple Chili Cook-Off on Armed Forces Day.

    • It has grown into a stand-alone event on the weekend before the Armed Forces Day Parade.
    • Since 2002 this event has grown in attendance from 25 guests wanting Chili to over 300 quests enjoying the best
    • Military Culinary Specialists presentations and mouthwatering dishes.
    • Participants come from all branch of the military with some teams taking so serious the billet in Bremerton the week prior to prepare.
    • The audience waits in anticipation of the completion of judging not only to find out the winners in each category but to sample all the entries.

Pepsi Armed Forces Festival Golf Tournament


This is golf tournament brings together both civilian and military golfers in an event that thanks our Armed Forces for all their hard work and sacrifice.

 

Categories:

 

All golfers compete for prizes in two different categories:

  • Best Ball Scramble low gross score
  • Best Ball Scramble low Callaway score

 

The military golfers also get to compete in an additional two categories:

  • Military team with the Best Ball Scramble low gross score
  • The Haselwood Commander Cup traveling trophy awarded to the best combined score of their command

 

All golfers compete in many individual categories:

 

  • Hole-in-one on the Par 3 17th for a $10,000 Pebble Beach Golf Vacation
  • Hole-in-one on the remaining Par 3's for Airline Tickets, Golf Clubs or a TV
  • Closest to the pin on all Par 3's
  • Longest Drive
  • Putting contest for a chance to win $5,000 cash.
  • Longest putt on the Par 3 14th
     

History and Stats

The Pepsi Armed Forces Golf tournament is in its 21st year. It started at the Rolling Hills Golf Course in East Bremerton. It was moved to Gold Mountain Golf Complex and is played on their Cascade course.  Starting this year the tournament will rotate between three courses with this year's event being held at McCormick Woods Golf Course.  The tournament is comprised of a Best Ball Scramble team event. Two shotgun starts are available, a morning and afternoon time.

  • Since 2001 the tournament has increased in participants from 140 golfers to 220+ golfers.
  • Teams come from all over the Kitsap Peninsula, Seattle, and Tacoma.
  • In 2009 there were back to back hole-in-ones on one of the holes that didn't offer a prize. This single event compelled the committee to increase

prizes for the first hole-in-one on all Par 3's.

  • One military team has even participated with a father from Idaho.
  • The Haselwood Commander's Cup Trophy is in its fourth year and has become a highly coveted item.

History and Stats

The Armed Forces Day parade held in Bremerton is the largest and longest running Armed Forces Day Parade in the nation. This year is the 64th year of the event held on the third Saturday in May in Downtown Bremerton. This event includes a Hero's Barbeque that provides a free hot dog, chips and soda meal to all Active-duty, Reserve, Retired and Veteran.

  • The parades annual attendance is 25,000 - 30,000 people from all over Western Washington.
  • Entries have come from as far away as Oregon and Spokane to participate in this event.
  • The parade includes all branches of the military, police and firefighters, pageant queens, commercial businesses, car clubs and more.
  • The number of High School and Jr. High/Middle School marching units has grown every year.

Brothers Powersports Armed Forces Day Motorcycle Poker Run


This event is a motorcycle ride around the Olympic Peninsula with great stops along the way that include stops at Samuel Adams on Naval Base Kitsap - Bremerton and the Military Culinary Arts Competition.

Brothers Powersports is the major sponsor of this event. This is the third year of the event and is held the Saturday begore the Armed Forces Day Parade.

Media Marketing Plan

Each event will be supported with multiple, large and professionally designed ads.  An additional campaign of 'omnibus' ads will promote the overall festival and its many events.  Within the omnibus festival ads and the individual ads, title and other sponsors will be clearly identifies, with the Kitsap Sun consistently identifies as the "Presented by" sponsor.  the ads will be published in the Kitsap Sun and the Kitsap edition of the Northwest Navigator.
