Bremerton offers a variety of exceptional educational opportunities for its students. Quality is the watchword of the Bremerton School District. Opened in 1988, the new Bremerton High School features state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, two gymnasiums and a 1200-seat performing arts center. Memorial Stadium's beautiful grass football field, with modern track and covered seating is located adjacent to the campus. The district has developed programs for the gifted, learning disabled, college bound, vocationally oriented; and many other specific groups of students. The Bremerton School District was also a pioneer in establishing a pre-first grade program for kindergarten children who are not quite ready for first grade. Olympic College is an accredited community college, which serves students in Kitsap and Mason counties. The main campus is located in west Bremerton adjacent to Bremerton High School, and a permanent satellite campus is located in Shelton. Each quarter, The View, a schedule of classes, is mailed to local postal patrons. Olympic College offers associate degrees, a wide range of vocational programs, skill building, adult education, non credit, and community service classes. Selected apprenticeships, some associated with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, strengthen a variety of cooperative education opportunities. An array of student services such as assessment, testing, counseling, financial aid and supportive services enhance student success. In addition, General Education Development (GED), and Adult High School Diploma programs offer high school completion options for adults. Qualified high school juniors and seniors take advantage of Running Start, a program where they can earn high school and college credits concurrently. Olympic College has a Two Plus Two Program for students who want to earn a bachelor's degree in specific programs. Old Dominion University teletechnet in partnership with Olympic College. Eton Business College, Chapman University, City University and Southern Illinois University at Bangor also offer programs in the Bremerton area. Several other four-year colleges and universities are within an hour's commute, including the University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle University and the University of Puget Sound.
